The Standard: Dad's example helps build a successful career

WATCHING his dad work as a youngster sparked a love of building and has landed Tim Martin a top award. 

The Warrnambool carpentry apprentice was among the high achievers at the Westvic Staffing Solutions awards, named the region's apprentice of the year. 

Hamilton's Russell Elton was named trainee of the year and Casterton's Britnee Tait was named the Australian School Based Apprentice of the year. 

Tim is undertaking a Certificate III in General Construction (Carpentry) with host employer BDH Constructions and was described by the judges as "a very mature young man who goes about his apprenticeship with minimal fuss".
