DEEWR's Monthly Leading Indicator of Employment (Indicator) has
fallen for the third consecutive month in April 2010, following a
previous rise of seven consecutive months. However, it is still too
early to confirm that a slowing in the pace of employment growth
below its long-term trend rate of 1.9 per cent per annum is in
prospect, because the Indicator has fallen for fewer than six
consecutive months. In contrast, cyclical employment troughed six
months ago, after previously falling for seventeen consecutive
months.
