Innovative program helps disadvantaged jobseekers
Minister for Employment
Participation Mark Arbib and Member for Forde Brett Raguse today
met disadvantaged jobseekers being given new skills through a
series of innovative social enterprises. The Australian
Government's Innovation Fund has provided almost $300,000 to the
Business and Social Enterprise (BASE) project run by Assisting
Collaborative Community Employment Support (ACCES) Service. Senator
Arbib said under the BASE project, local enterprises including
gardening and home maintenance in the public housing estates,
organic garden produce, removal business and aged care and child
relief work agency would be formed. "This project will provide
opportunities to 100 participants over a 36 month period through
the Logan and Beenleigh regions," Senator Arbib said. "Income
generated from the project will be reinvested in the enterprise to
create further employment and training opportunities. "The
Australian Government recognises the important role social
enterprises can play in providing opportunities for people to gain
valuable work experience in a supported environment."
