DEEWR Monthly Leading Indicator of Employment - Oct 2011

Date published : 12  October  2011

DEEWR's Monthly Leading Indicator of Employment (Indicator) has risen in October 2011, after five consecutive monthly falls previously. However, it is too early to confirm that a quickening in employment growth (to a rate above its revised long-term trend of 1.8 per cent per annum) is in prospect, because the Indicator has risen for fewer than six consecutive months. In contrast, cyclical employment has now fallen for the eighth consecutive month, which confirms that the annualised growth rate of employment is already below its downwardly revised long-term trend.
