Almost half of Australia's working
age population does not have the reading, writing or numeracy
skills to participate effectively in the type of training required
for trade or professional jobs. As a result, between 7 and 8
million Australians are in danger of being confined to low-wage
jobs with little prospect of improvement. Australia's eleven
Industry Skills Councils have jointly released a new report calling
for urgent action to remedy this situation.
