Connecting People with Jobs—eligibility changes from 1 August 2011

Date published : 21  July  2011

The following update was posted on the ECSN portal.

This DEEWR bulletin is to inform providers that the Connecting People with Jobs eligibility requirements will change from 1 August 2011.

The changes are aimed at reducing administrative complexity for providers and bringing more 'job ready' job seekers into the eligibility pool. Eligibility is also being extended to Disability Employment Services (DES) Participants.

A summary of the changes is provided below:

Present CPwJ eligibility requirements

From 1 August 2011

Job seekers need to be:

  • unemployed and in receipt of an eligible income support payment for at least 12 months where they are relocating from an area of higher than average unemployment
  • unemployed and in receipt of an eligible income support payment for at least three months where they are relocating to a flood affected area in Queensland

All job seekers need to be:

  • unemployed for at least three months
  • in receipt of an eligible income support payment upon activation of the CPwJ Special Client Indicator in ESS (that is, income support duration is not a consideration)

Disability Employment Services (DES) Participants are not eligible

DES Participants are eligible

Note: All other eligibility criteria will still apply.

Revised Connecting People with Jobs documentation, including the Advice, Participant Agreement, Job Aid and Fact Sheets, will be available on the Provider Portal from 1 August 2011 at the following location: Stream Services > Program Information > Connecting People with Jobs

Information relating to DES Participants, including the process for accessing Connecting People with Jobs funding, will be available on the Disability Employment Services page of the Provider Portal from 1 August 2011.

Connecting People with Jobs provides practical assistance to job seekers to relocate for ongoing work or apprenticeships. The initiative commenced on 1 January 2011 with funding available to assist up to 4000 eligible job seekers to relocate. A wage subsidy is also available for employers taking on a relocating job seeker in an ongoing position.

Connecting People with Jobs funding is very flexible and can be used for a range of relocation related purposes. Providers are encouraged to work closely with job seekers to identify the ways they might be supported and funded through Connecting People with Jobs. This might include:

  • assisting job seekers to prepare for the move
  • practical assistance to help job seekers relocate
  • supporting job seekers to settle in their new locations.

Providers are reminded that Connecting People with Jobs initiative funding is separate from the Employment Pathway Fund. Accessing funding under the initiative does not affect providers' general Employment Pathway Fund.

Providers should speak to their Contract Manager if they would like further information about the initiative or these eligibility changes.
