Often the right person for the mining job, just needs a
little bit of support
The right person for a mining job is often an Australian who has
been provided with the necessary support from a Government
employment service provider, according to Sally Sinclair, CEO of
the National Employment Services Association.
NESA represents providers of Government contracted employment and
related services, who assist people in receipt of benefits into
sustainable employment.
"Our members have demonstrated time and time again, that when those
on government benefits are given the right support, there are many
people who are prepared, willing, and able to work in the mining
industry," Sally Sinclair said.
"Many of our members have developed excellent relationships with a
large number of mining companies, demonstrating how a more
inclusive approach to employment can identify many candidates who,
with a bit of support, can meet a lot of their workforce
requirements in ways previously thought too difficult," Sally
said.
"Often the 'right person for the job' is an Indigenous Australian
living in the local community, or it may be another job seeker in
receipt of government benefits, who just needs the necessary
support to meet mining companies needs, but too often these
candidates are overlooked," Sally said
"NESA supports efforts to provide the required employment and
related services to enable Australians, especially those who are
currently not in the workforce, or who have had difficulty in
finding work, to meet mining workforce needs wherever possible,"
she said
