Media Release - Government partnership links Indigenous workers to Resource Jobs

Date published : 12  June  2012

The Australian Government is partnering with the Northern Territory Government to better connect Indigenous workers in communities to meet the workforce needs of major resource projects in the Territory. The Federal Minister for Skills, Senator Chris Evans, with the Territory Deputy Chief Minister Delia Lawrie today announced the establishment of 'Remote and Regional Workforce Connect' for the Northern Territory. Under this initiative the Gillard Government will commit $400,000 to support a coordinator who will help link workers in Territory communities to the rapidly growing number of jobs on major new resources and infrastructure projects," Senator Evans said. "The coordinator's appointment is another concrete example of how the Commonwealth and Territory Government are working to ensure Australians get the first opportunities at well-paid on-going jobs, and to support industry to meet its workforce requirements in the Territory. This is a win-win solution."
