Indigenous Employment Program tops key targets
The Australian Government's Indigenous Employment Program has
exceeded its key targets this financial year, delivering almost
33,000 work and training commencements for Indigenous Australians.
Minister for Indigenous Employment and Economic Development, Julie
Collins, has today welcomed the program's results for the 2011-12
financial year. "The program managed to top its key financial year
targets well ahead of schedule - in most cases before the end of
May," Ms Collins said. "One of the most pleasing results was the
total number of commencements in work or training - it's at least
15 per cent higher than the program's target. "The Government is
investing $650 million in the Indigenous Employment Program over
four years and these latest results are an encouraging sign of real
progress."
