Wage Connect subsidy supports more than 5000 very long
term unemployed people with disability into jobs
More than 5000 Australians with disability who had been
unemployed for at least two years have found jobs, thanks to the
Australian Government's $94 million Wage Connect initiative.
Minister for Employment Participation Kate Ellis said Wage Connect,
part of the Building Australia's Future Workforce package, kicked
off in January and supports businesses to employ disadvantaged job
seekers. "Since it began, Wage Connect has helped over 9,000 people
into paying jobs, with over 5,000 of these being people in receipt
of a Disability Support Pension or identifying themselves as having
a disability," Ms Ellis said. "I'm pleased to see that so many
Australians with disability are being supported into work - some
for the first time in their lives - because of this Government
initiative. "Without access to paid employment, many people with
disability risk life on the margins of our community.
